1.HRD minister announces to increase 5,000 seats in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya

Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar announced an increase of 5000 seats in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya from the academic year 2019-20 on 7th January, 2019.

At present, the number of seats in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas for talented rural children is 46,600. With the increase of 5000 seats in Jawahar Navodaya schools, availability of seats will be 51000 from the academic year 2019-20.

2.Supreme Court dismisses decision to send CBI chief Alok Verma on leave

The Supreme Court on January 8, 2019 has given a major verdict and has canceled the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) decision to send the Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to Alok Verma on leave.

I.e. Alok Verma will now be in the position of the CBI Director till his fixed term i.e. January 31. Following the hearing on December 06, 2018, the bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice KM Joseph reserved the decision on the petition of Alok Verma. CJI Ranjan Gogoi is on leave today, in this case Justice Sanjay Kishan has read the decision.

3.India launches operations in Chabahar port in Iran

India has taken over the responsibility of operationalizing the strategically important Chabahar port located in the province of Sistan-Baluchistan in Iran. The central government said this on 07 January 2019 This is the first time that India will operate a port outside its territory.

During the meeting of the Chabahar Trilateral Agreement held on 24th December 2018, the Indian government has taken over the operation of a portion of Shahid Beheshti port (Chabahar) in Iran. The India Pots Global Chabahar Free Zone (IPGCFZ) Office of Chabahar-based Special Purpose Company (SPV), India, Iran and Afghanistan, jointly inaugurated the delegation.

4.70 point grading index launched for improving school education

It was recently announced by the Union Human Resource Development Ministry (HRD) that 70 point grading index has been launched to improve the quality of school education in the states. 35 states and Union Territories of India have confirmed this inclusion.

70 indicators will be used for grading the school system. This 70 point grading index will assess the deficiencies of the school education system or the weak parties so that the necessary steps can be taken to improve education at every level.

5.Prasar Bharati closed the national channel of All India Radio for 32 years

Prasar Bharati has recently decided to close the National Channel of All India Radio and regional training academy in five cities with immediate effect. In the order issued by the Deputy Director of Prasar Bharati, it has been stated that this has been done for deduction of such expenses, along with this step to make services more rational.

Akashwani (All India Radio) is a public sector radio broadcasting service run under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India. Radio broadcasting in India started in Mumbai and Kolkata in 1927 with two private transmitters.
